CULLMAN – An Ashland man has been arrested and charged in a Cullman County child abuse case. Shannon Dewayne Waldrop, 35, was arrested on Wednesday.

According to the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), investigators began working with the Cullman County Department of Human Resources (DHR) after a report of possible abuse was made against Waldrop.

“CCSO investigators worked with DHR to determine that there was probable cause to arrest Mr. Waldrop,” said a statement from the sheriff’s office.

“I would like to thank everyone for the hard work in this case. I ask everyone to keep the victim in their prayers,” said Sheriff Matt Gentry.

Waldrop is charged with torture, willful abuse of child under 18 years of age. He is being held in the Cullman County Detention Center on a $50,000 cash bond. The CCSO said more charges may be pending.
