BIRMINGHAM – It was a long night on the road for the Hanceville Bulldogs, who traveled to Birmingham to face the Midfield Patriots in a regional bout that saw the home-standing Patriots put down the Bulldogs, 70-18.

The game got off to a great start for the road team as the Hanceville offense drove down the field and scored on the opening possession of the night with a 1-yard touchdown from senior running back RJ Evans. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, they weren’t able to find the end zone again until midway through the third quarter. Midfield ripped off 38 unanswered points to end the first half with a 38-6 lead.

The Patriots scored to start the third quarter and extended their lead to 46-6, but Bulldog quarterback Bo Joles ran one in from 9-yards out on the next Hanceville possession to make it 46-12.

Midfield continued to pull away after Joles’ touchdown, going up 70-12 before Evans was able to score his second touchdown of the night and bring the final to 70-18 in favor of the Patriots.

The 3A, Region 5 Bulldogs (1-6, 0-4) will have a chance to regroup and rest up this week before hitting the field again on Oct. 19 when they host Fultondale for another regional showdown.
