CULLMAN – Cullman County Animal Shelter volunteer Donna Ruttkay introduces us to The Cullman Tribune’s Pet of the Week:

Delta is almost a year old and no one quite knows what she is, beyond “sweet” and a “kindhearted soul!”

“Rumor has it,” said Ruttkay, “she's a mix of shepherd, et al.”

Delta is accustomed to being a pet, and had been cared for before coming to the shelter.  She’s a medium-energy pet who cherishes human companionship and is submissive around people.  She will listen when you speak and handles herself pretty well on her leash.

She has the makings of a comfort, companion, therapy or hiking pet, and the shelter staff feels she could be a good candidate for a nursing home or hospital therapy dog.

Animal shelter staff and volunteers work with their dogs to make sure they are accustomed to being around people, walking on a leash and practicing good behavior.  Several of the shelter’s dogs have even been “hired” to work as special needs service dogs.

Delta’s adoption fee is $90, which includes: DHLPP vaccine, Bordetella vaccines, rabies vaccine, wormer, general exam at the vet, spaying, microchip, free 45-day health insurance policy issued by 24PetWatch (with valid email only) and a free bag of food from Cullman Pet Depot (you must pay sales tax).

Please consider adopting to give a rescued pet a chance at a happy and healthy life.
