CULLMAN – Victim Services of Cullman welcomes October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Domestic violence is the willful intimidation, physical assault, battery, sexual assault, and/or other abusive behavior as part of a systematic pattern of power and control perpetrated by one intimate partner against another. It includes physical violence, sexual violence, threats and emotional abuse. One in three women and one in four men will be the victim of domestic violence at some point in their lifetime, and, on average, three individuals are killed every day at the hands of a current or former intimate partner.

Domestic violence happens in every community, including our own. Every day, Victim Services of Cullman’s 24-hour Crisis Hotline (256-734-6100) receives calls from victims seeking assistance in the form of safe housing in the Harbor Haus shelter, counseling, advocacy and education. These services are provided free to residents of Cullman County.
