Wallace State volleyball registers 5 ACCC victories in 5 days, remaining perfect in conference

HANCEVILLE – Wallace State’s volleyball team registered five conference victories over a five-day span, capping the busy stretch on Sunday.

Wallace State’s first home match of the season after spending the first three weeks on the road.

“We’ve been ready to play at home. It’s helped us build some rhythm. We haven’t played our best yet and being at home allows you to focus more on that. We’re trying to get better. We’ve got to continue to work on our weaknesses,” said Wallace State coach Randy Daniel, the all-time winningest coach in program history. “We have an enormous amount of talent. We just have to learn how to be more consistent and competitive.”

Wallace State (17-5, 8-0 Alabama Community College Conference) prevailed, 25-19, 25-22, 20-25, 25-23, over Gadsden State.

Sophomore Lexie Riggins paced the way against Gadsden State, compiling 21 kills and three digs for Wallace State. Maya Jones had 14 kills, Karlee Hale had nine kills and eight digs and Alex Wiggins had eight kills and five digs.

McKenzie Boland registered a team-high 45 assists, while Madison Rhodes had eight. Madison Turner finished with eight digs.

Wallace State swept Bevill State (25-17, 25-21, 25-13) as Turner finished with a team-high 13 kills and Jones added nine kills.

Boland finished with 32 assists, while Rhodes added six. Katie Edwards racked up a team-high 14 digs, Wiggins finished with eight digs and seven kills and Courtlyn Barber had four kills and four digs.

In a 25-17, 25-14, 25-6 victory over Wallace Community College-Selma, six Wallace State players finished with at least four kills, including Kate Kent with a team-high six. Boland had 18 assists and Rhodes added 14. Turner, Hale, Wiggins and Edwards had five digs apiece.

Wallace State capped the busy home stretch with a 25-11, 25-15, 25-13 triumph over Coastal Alabama-Brewton.

Hale finished with nine kills and six digs for Wallace State, Jones had eight kills and Wiggins finished with six kills and five digs.

Boland finished with 34 assists for Wallace State. Edwards had 10 digs.

In Wadley on Sunday, Wallace State zipped past Southern Union, 25-18, 25-19, 25-12, with three players collecting more than 10 kills apiece. Freshman Kaitlyn Doyle had 14 kills, Riggins added 11 and Wiggins had 10. Jones and Hale added nine kills apiece.

Boland added to her conference-leading assists total with 39 against the Bison. Rhodes added 10 assists. Edwards had 16 digs and Barber added six.

Wallace State continues ACCC action on Wednesday at it welcomes Snead State to Tom Drake Coliseum.
