CULLMAN – The United Way of Cullman County’s Young Professionals Board invited everyone to a put up their boots and dance the night away at the inaugural Women United event. The celebration took place Thursday night at Loft 212 to raise money for the United Way of Cullman County’s partner agencies and to encourage women in the community to get involved.

The country-themed celebration featured live music, dancing, a silent auction and dinner for the more than 150 in attendance.

The United Way’s YP Board describes Women United: “United Way is launching Women United, a network of dynamic women leaders who are committed to support the works and programs of United Way of Cullman County. Help improve your community, be part of the process.”

Instructors from the Dance Factory were on-hand Thursday evening and led a dance break of several line dances. Guests bid on artwork, vacations, jewelry, gift baskets and other items donated by local businesses. Two country-themed photo areas were set up for guests with fun props to use in pictures. “Best boots” and other contests were also held, with winners based on crowd response. The Chris Posey Band provided the event’s live music.

YP Board Member Stephanie Dye said of the turnout, “We are very happy with the turnout for a first-year event. After the Women’s Gala ended a few years ago, we needed something to bring women together. We wanted it to be casual, fun and laid-back.”

“We want to create a board for women over the age of 35,” said YP Board Chair Jennifer Parker. “Cullman has some really great women, and this board will be made up of a wide array of women that can work on community projects together.”

United Way Board Member Josh Speakman added, “I want to thank everyone who came out tonight, despite the weather, to support the new United Women kick-off event. Please contact the United Way office if you are a local woman looking for something in which to get involved. This group is going to truly kick up some dust! I would also like to encourage anyone who is looking for a good cause to get behind to support United Way. United Way provides funding to many local agencies. I am an active member of the Board of Directors, so I can promise you firsthand that I have witnessed the work of United Way. I believe in their mission 100 percent!”
