HANCEVILLE – The Hanceville Bulldogs (Class 3A, Region 5) welcomed the Curry Yellow Jackets (4A, Region 5) Friday night, and on the first series Curry came out firing, nailing a 70-yard touchdown pass to start the game. Hanceville fought hard, but Curry was too much, dropping the Bulldogs, 27-16, and 1-5 on the season.

On a four-play, 50-yard drive Hanceville punched it in on a pass from Bo Joles to Antonio Bautista. The 2-point conversion was caught by Fred Ellis to put the Bulldogs up 8-6 over Curry with 1:07 in the first quarter.

Curry picked up its drive in the second quarter with the ball at the Yellow Jacket 40-yard line and worked its way down the field for the last scoring drive of the half.

It came on a 6-yard touchdown pass to Michael Kuriger. The 2-point conversion was good to put Curry ahead 14-8 with 6:13 left in the half, setting the fans up for a fun second half of football.

Following a long seven-play, 60-yard drive, Joles makes a 25-yard pass to Ellis for a Hanceville touchdown. The 2-point conversion made good by RJ Evans put the Bulldogs up 16-14 over Curry with a little more than eight minutes to go in the third.

Almost a full quarter later, after a defensive stand from Hanceville, Curry’s Colton Burton was able to break through for a 60-yard touchdown run. The 2-point conversion was no good, putting Curry up 20-14 with 5:51 left in the game.

On the next possession, a Hanceville fumble at the Bulldogs’ 10-yard line was recovered by Curry for a touchdown, putting the Yellowjackets up 27-16, sealing the game.

Hanceville will travel to Midfield on Oct. 5.
