CULLMAN – Thursday night was Senior Night for Cullman Volleyball and after the Lady Bearcats’ area matchup with the Hartselle Tigers, four seniors were honored in front of the home crowd. Dalaisha Kent, Amanda Hill, Caroline Hollingsworth and Gracie Apel were all recognized and called up in front of the crowd with their families to celebrate their years with the program.
During the match, things went Hartselle’s way. The Lady Tigers knocked off Cullman in three sets, 25-18, 25-22 and 25-15.
The Lady ‘Cats got off to fast start in the first set, but Hartselle began to chip away at the lead midway through the match and took control of the momentum. Despite an ace, two kills and two blocks from Kada Milne and two blocks and four kills from Hollingsworth, Hartselle was able to pull away in the first set and take an early 1-0 lead.
The second set was a tighter competition that saw Cullman put together a late run and threaten the Hartselle lead. Milne posted another three blocks and two kills while Kaina Thomas knocked down four kills, but it wasn’t enough to hold off the Lady Tigers and the visitors held on to win and go up 2-0.
Hartselle had found its groove by the third set and put Cullman away 25-15 to secure the area win. L.G. Evans did a lot of damage for the Lady Bearcats in the third set, scoring an ace, a block and two kills in the loss. Ashlen Heatherly also dropped in two aces in the third set.
Cullman will see the Lady Tigers again on Sept. 27 when the Lady Bearcats travel to Hartselle for a tri-match with Hartselle and the Lady Falcons of St. John Paul II.
