MOULTON – It was a one-sided affair in Moulton Friday night as the West Point Warriors (Class 5A, Region 7) traveled to face Lawrence County (Class 5A, Region 7) for a regional matchup that ended in a 43-7 win for the Red Devils.

The Red Devils got off to a fast start in the game, shutting out the Warriors in the first half. West Point’s offense threatened to score in the first half when quarterback Rylan Jones hit running back Hunter Persall on a screen pass for 46 yards, but the Warriors weren’t able to capitalize on the big play. Lawrence County’s defense forced a turnover on downs and maintained a 28-0 lead going into the locker room at halftime.

The Red Devils continued to add to their lead in the second half, and the Warriors weren’t able to get on the board until the fourth quarter when Persall broke through for a 24-yard touchdown run. Unfortunately for the Warriors, Persall’s late score was too little, too late and Lawrence County pulled away to take the game 43-7. Red Devils quarterback Austin Blankenship led the way for his offense, throwing four touchdowns on the night.

West Point (2-2) will hit the practice field this week looking to regroup for its regional showdown with Russellville at home next Friday.
