ARLEY – Hubbertville (Class 1A, Region 6) put 34 points on the scoreboard in the first half and coasted to a 47-28 victory over Meek (Class 1A, Region 6) on Friday night.
The Lions (3-0, 2-0) had four players rush for more than 70 yards on the night led by Gage Key with 104 yards and three touchdowns.
Meek cut Hubbertville’s lead to 8-6 early in the game on a Payton Key touchdown pass to Caleb Aaron.
The Lions followed with 26 unanswered points to push their lead to 34-6 in the second quarter.
Gabe Jones added a rushing touchdown in the second quarter, cutting Hubbertville’s lead to 34-12 at the half.
Meek’s final two scores came in the fourth quarter. With the Tigers trailing 47-12, Key hit Aaron on a 44-yard touchdown pass, adding a two-point conversion. The final score came on a Key 20-yard touchdown pass to Bryson Hudson. Key hit Aaron on the two-point conversion to make the final score 47-28.
For Meek (1-3, 0-2), Key finished the game 9 of 21 for 213 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. Aaron caught three passes for 104 yards and two scores. On the ground, Jones rushed 20 times for 120 yards and a score.
The Tigers play at Berry in a region game next week.
