CULLMAN – Throughout September, the Arby’s located on Alabama Highway 157 in Cullman will be collecting items for the homeless in our community. Arby’s is asking for winter items such as sleeping bags, tents, blankets, coats, boots, socks, gloves and other cold weather accessories. Personal hygiene items will also be accepted.
Arby’s General Manager Julie Coleman said, “I have been with Arby’s for a year and I was touched by how the company encourages each location to get involved with their communities. At meetings, I would hear all the different programs locations around Alabama were doing. I immediately began asking around to see how I could help Cullman. I’m not from Cullman, so I wasn’t sure what to do. I was introduced to Karma in Cullman and learned that Cullman has around 200-300 homeless individuals. Many of them are veterans! I just can’t believe how people who fought for us can be homeless. It’s not right and we want to help.”
Coleman approached her supervisor, Chris Williams, about partnering with Karma in Cullman in the upcoming months. Coleman said of Williams, “He has been so great and loved the idea. He has been very supportive. Christy Hutchins is the general manager of Arby’s in south Cullman. She has been great, too.”
Coleman, who has been on vacation this week, has spent her time off driving around picking up items from people who have left messages. While she said that she is happy to do it, items can also be dropped off at both Cullman Arby’s locations.
All items will be distributed to those in need by Karma in Cullman. Arby’s is planning a canned food drive in October and November. If you have questions or have donated items that need picked up, call Arby’s at 256-737-1091.
