BREMEN – The Cold Springs Eagles (Class 2A, Region 5) hosted the Berry Wildcats (Class 1A, Region 6) at Eagles Stadium Friday night and the home team got off to a good start. Cold Springs senior Francisco Ayala picked off a Wildcats pass early and then a touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Brodi Williams to sophomore wide out Roberto Ayala gave the Eagles an early 7-0 lead, but Berry was able to score in the first quarter as well and cut the lead to 7-6 at the end of the quarter.
The Eagles came out strong on defense with senior defensive back Mason Harris intercepting a pass on the next drive and senior running back Calvin McNabb scored for the Eagles in the second quarter making the score, after the extra point, 14-6 Cold Springs at the half.
The Wildcats came out of the break strong and scored two touchdowns making the score 20-14 Berry by the start of the fourth quarter.
McNabb continued to hurt the Wildcats on the ground and scored two more touchdowns in the second half, including the go-ahead touchdown that made the final score 27-20 Cold Springs.
The Eagles will look to take their third win in a row next week when they travel to face Southeastern (Class 2A, Region 5).
