Cullman native Jack St. John appointed General Services Administration general counsel

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) today announced the appointment of Jack St. John as general counsel. St. John will oversee the Office of General Counsel, which consists of more than 130 attorneys nationwide, and serve as the chief legal advisor to the GSA administrator.

St. John has been serving as GSA’s acting general counsel since October 2017. He previously served as GSA’s chief of staff and senior White House advisor. Prior to joining GSA, St. John was a partner in a law firm in his home state of Alabama, where he represented businesses, professionals, and governmental entities in litigation and transactional matters.

"Jack has done an excellent job as our acting general counsel and he will continue to bring great value to our GSA leadership team,” said GSA Administrator Emily Murphy. "Jack’s legal expertise and management experience will help further GSA’s role as a strategic leader for the federal government.”

As general counsel, St. John provides expert guidance to GSA Administrator Emily Murphy, facilitating the execution of the administrator's priorities and ensuring full implementation of GSA’s statutory responsibilities. St. John will also serve as the Designated Agency Ethics Official (DAEO), advise in the formulation and promulgation of GSA policies and regulations, oversee the agency’s litigation, and provide overall direction to the Office of General Counsel.

A native of Cullman, Alabama, St. John holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Virginia, a Juris Doctor from the University of Alabama School of Law, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Alabama's Manderson Graduate School of Business.
