CULLMAN – Here are three fun events going on around the Cullman area on Saturday.
4th Annual Fairview Band Car & Tractor Show, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
Randall Shedd Community Park in Fairview will be filled with classic cars, tractors and a variety of vendors, games and music for the fourth annual Fairview Band Car & Tractor Show. It will feature live music, food trucks, arts and crafts vendors, free inflatables for kids and free health screenings from Cullman Regional in addition to the vehicles on display.
The show originally began as a fundraiser to replace the band's marching uniforms after 15 years. Now that the band has its new uniforms, the proceeds from this year’s show – and all following shows – will be split evenly: half will be used for the band's general costs and equipment maintenance, and the other half will go into a uniform fund for future purchases.
Car registration the day of the event is $20.
2018 Duck Drawdown Festival, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
The second annual Duck Drawdown Festival will take place at Sportsman Lake Park. The festival will be from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., except for the fishing rodeo which begins at 8. Admission is free to the park and festival.
The event will include a kids’ fishing rodeo, kayak races and canoe races. The entry fee for these contests will be $2 per person. The races are scheduled to begin at 10:30.
The main event will be the duck drawdown. Tickets will be $5 or five for $20 with the drawdown beginning at 1 p.m. During this time many door prizes will be given away as well as a “wild duck” prize of a small utility trailer. The final duck remaining will be the grand prize winner and receive $1,000.
Sara Morgan, marketing director for Cullman County Parks and Recreation, said, “Participants do not have to be present to win. We will call all winners to pick up prizes if they are unable to stay for the drawdown.”
In addition to the races and contests, there will be many new inflatables for the kids, more than 20 arts and craft vendors and shaved ice. The park’s splash pad, train, putt-putt golf and concessions will be open all day. Live music will also be provided by local Cullman favorite, Bama Country.
