MONTGOMERY— Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded a $200,000 Community Development Block Grant to the city of Good Hope to assist in extending sewer service to a new business that will create 25 jobs.
The city will use grant funds to extend sewer service to AGCOR Steel, which is building a new 128,000-square-foot facility on 46 acres along Industrial Park Road on the eastern edge of the city. The city will install 3,600 feet of sewer force mains and 1,000 feet of gravity sewer mains and a new lift station.
“Working with communities to create new job opportunities is vital to the success of Alabama’s economy,” Ivey said. “I am pleased to award this grant which is a first step in helping Good Hope and AGCOR generate new jobs and new business within the community.”
AGCOR produces metal roofing products, post frame buildings and steel buildings.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available to the state by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Ivey and I are committed to bringing more jobs to Alabama, and the Community Development Block Grant program plays a key role in providing the infrastructure necessary for a business to locate or expand in our state,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said. “ADECA’s partnerships with cities like Good Hope are key in making a better economic future for the state.”
ADECA administers an array of programs that support law enforcement and traffic safety, economic development, energy conservation, water resource management and recreation development.
Ivey notified Good Hope Mayor Jerry Bartlett the grant had been approved. The town is contributing $40,000 in matching funds to complete the project.
