CULLMAN – Cullman County Animal Shelter volunteer Donna Ruttkay reported to The Tribune that, due to multiple owner surrenders and stray pickups occurring around the same time recently, the shelter had several puppies become available on the same day this week.  For that reason, The Tribune is proud to present PETS of the Week:

Libby and Spock are mixed Chihuahuas.  Little girl Libby is a semi-laid-back medium energy pup, while boy Spock is an exciting medium-high energy pet.  They both enjoy getting outside to play in the yard as they exercise their little feet. They cherish human companionship and are learning the leash; they could make fine companion/comfort dogs one day.

Sweet Pea is a 3-month-old beagle pup and a laid-back low-med energy pet.  She craves human companionship; her human will be the epicenter of her world. She enjoys the kiddie pool and gets a bit frisky after a cooling splash.  If you enjoy the bay of a beagle, you won’t be disappointed; Ruttkay said it was “delightful listening to her vocalize while she plays.” She could have a good future as a therapy/service/comfort/companion dog.

Brothers Turtle and Dolphin are 4-month-old hound mixes with dramatic coloration patterns.

Turtle is a laid-back low energy pet with a future as a companion/comfort/reading/therapy dog.  He’s learning leash etiquette and loves being a member of a pack with a loving human alpha. He’s not a big swimmer, but gracefully accepts water activities.

Dolphin, on the other hand, loves the water and playing in the kiddie pool.  He’s a bouncy medium-high energy pup. He’s been starved for human interaction and will stick by his human’s side.  Ruttkay described him as “delightfully bright” and “savvy with leash protocol.” He could make a great companion/service/comfort dog.

Animal shelter staff and volunteers work with their dogs to make sure they are accustomed to being around people, walking on a leash and practicing good behavior.  Several of the shelter’s dogs have even been “hired” to work as special needs service dogs.

Each of the pups can be adopted for $90, which includes: DHLPP vaccine, Bordetella vaccines, rabies vaccine, wormer, general exam at the vet, spaying/neutering, microchip, free 45-day health insurance policy issued by 24PetWatch (with valid email only) and a free bag of food from Cullman Pet Depot (you must pay sales tax).

Please consider adopting to give a rescued pet a chance at a happy and healthy life.
