CULLMAN – Cullman County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director Phyllis Little recently won the Pat Neuhauser Spirit of Emergency Management Award, and the Cullman County Commission on Tuesday morning recognized Little for her accomplishment.
The commission’s certificate of recognition reads, “To Phyllis Little, Cullman County EMA Director, the 2017-2018 recipient of the Pat Neuhauser Spirit of Emergency Management Award which was presented by the Alabama Association of Emergency Managers for her commitment and dedication to the excellence of emergency management. We congratulate Phyllis on this achievement and her outstanding representation of Cullman County.”
The award, which has been given annually since 2004, is described by the AAEM: “The Pat Neuhauser Spirit of EMA Award is presented to an individual who is dedicated, faithful and loyal with a high level of enthusiasm in promoting emergency management and a willingness to share and serve. This is the most prestigious award offered by AAEM. One award is presented each year. A person may only be awarded once.”
In new business, Commissioner Garry Marchman’s appointment of Mike Cone to the Cullman County Center for the Developmentally Disabled (CCCDD) 310 Authority was approved. Cone’s term is scheduled to expire April 1, 2024.
Old health department building
Cullman County Attorney Chad Floyd updated the commission on the proposed lease agreement regarding the old health department building located on Fourth Avenue Northeast.
“Back in June the commission authorized you (Chairman Kenneth Walker) as the chairman to sign and enter into a lease agreement with the Cullman County Board of Education with respect to the old health department building. On June 28 I heard back from (CCBOE Chief Financial Officer) Ed Roberson, and after further evaluating their position, the county board of education has decided not to pursue that lease,” said Floyd.
The commission also:
– approved the adoption of “Guidelines for Having County Roads Widened.” Cullman County Engineer John Lang said he believes that having some additional written guidelines in place will make it easier for all departments to better handle road paving projects.
– approved the surplusage of a 2006 Ford Explorer from the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office to be donated to the Battleground Volunteer Fire Department.
– authorized the purchase of parts for the repair of a motor grader from Warrior Tractor at the cost $8,500.
– approved a proposed plat for Smith Acres subdivision. The plat contains five lots and is located in District 3 on County Roads 1428 and 1437.
– approved a variance for re-subdivision of lot 17 and 18 in Hawk’s Nest in the Phase 2 subdivision located off County Road 184.
