FAIRVIEW – In 2002, First Baptist Church of Fairview held its first fireworks show to celebrate the Fourth of July. As the years went by, the celebration only grew as the Town of Fairview, more local churches (Welcome Baptist Church, Ethel Baptist Church and Fairview United Methodist), and several sponsors joined the FBC in making the celebration into a festival that draws hundreds to the fireworks display.
This year, on Wednesday evening, along with the fireworks after dark, the celebration offered live music from local artists like The Potentials (a traditional Christian band from Oak Level Baptist Church) and Jordan Canaday, short sermons from pastors Scott Haygood (Fairview United Methodist) and Jeremy Calloway (Welcome Baptist Church) and a wide variety of food. While there was a lot of free food handed out by the churches, the Fairview Lions Club sold sweet treats like funnel cakes and fried Oreos to fund its big project of providing glasses and vision screenings to the community.
David Chambers, pastor of the FBC and the night's host, commented, "Everyone just kept joining and making the celebration grow and grow, and today this is probably one of the largest fireworks shows in northern Alabama. We love it!"
