CULLMAN – On Thursday evening, the staff of Cullman’s Moss Service Funeral Home celebrated over dinner at Stone Bridge Farms as staffers received their service pins, including:

  • Keith Patillo – 50 years of service
  • Three staffers received 25-year pins.  This pin just began to be issued this year, and the recipients actually had more than 40 years of service.  The recipients were:
    • Gary Murphree
    • Randy Speakman
    • Martha Mosteller received a pin in memory of her late husband Darrell Mosteller.
  • Shane Dillard – one year of service
  • Lacey Nail – one year of service

Moss Service Manager Mike Pepple told The Tribune, “It is a great staff.  We gathered here tonight to celebrate the longevity of Moss Service Funeral Home.  And we’ve got a combined over 340 years of experience with this staff, which predates Cullman, which is sort of funny to me.  We have three 25-year pin awards and one 50-year pin award. And, in reality, the 25-year pin award’s a brand new award this year by the Alabama State Funeral Directors Association; those three guys actually all have more than 40 years, but they’re just now getting their 25 year pin.  And so they’ll soon their 50 year pin.

“And then we also have a next generation.  We have two young apprentices, Alyssa Cunningham and Dawn Holmes, to carry us another hundred years and a lot of reality.  But it’s the best staff in town, and they do a great job taking care of our community.”

Moss Service has operated in the Cullman community since 1882.
