CULLMAN – A man who barricaded himself in a building and threatened to harm himself early Sunday evening surrendered peacefully, according to Cullman Police Chief Kenny Culpepper.

The man, whom Culpepper did not identify, was in a building "in the 13th Street and Second Avenue Northeast area," said the chief. The man was in a standoff with the Cullman Police Department and Cullman County Sheriff's Office for approximately an hour and a half.

"He was threatening to harm himself," said Culpepper. "He left to go for treatment. Hopefully it will end well."

The chief expressed his gratitude for the help from the sheriff's office.

This is a developing story.
