Wallace State Singers prepare for their upcoming show, “Sing America Sing!” which will be held July 5-7, at 7 p.m. nightly, at the Betty Leeth Haynes Theatre. Admission is a $10 donation, supporting the group’s 2019 European tour for “Stars Fell on Alabama: Music from the Heart of the South.”
HANCEVILLE – Current, former and future members of the Wallace State Singers will join voices July 5-7 to present “Sing America Sing!” a concert featuring songs that celebrate America. Shows will be at 7 p.m. nightly in the Betty Leeth Haynes Theatre.
“After the success of our production for the 50th anniversary of the college a couple of years ago, we thought this would be a wonderful opportunity to involve our Wallace State Singers alums in another show,” said Tiffany Richter, director of the Wallace State Singers. “Last month we held auditions for anyone interested in participating and wound up with a fantastic ensemble. We will also be joined by area children who participated in last year’s ArtsKids! programs.”
Over the next few weeks, the group will be in rehearsals for the show, which will include songs from a variety of genres, each celebrating the spirit of the United States of America.
“We are celebrating the spirit of America with songs that speak to the greatness of our nation, such as ‘This is My Country’ and ‘You’re a Grand Old Flag,’” Richter said. “But this show is also about what kind of music is American made — rock ‘n roll, country, etc. Fans will hear music from Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Aretha Franklin, Dolly Parton, John Denver and more.”
The show is also a fundraiser for the program, which is planning a European tour in 2019 to present “Stars Fell on Alabama: Music from the Heart of the South.” To be presented during the state’s Bicentennial celebration year, the show will highlight music made in Alabama and music about the state. One of the stops on the tour includes Cullman’s sister city of Frankweiler, Germany.
Donations of $10 per adult and $5 for children 10 and under are suggested as admission to the show.
