COLONY – On Wednesday, kids enrolled in Colony’s summer enrichment program got a visit from Smokey Bear, Colony Volunteer Fire Department Fireman Doug Farley, Forest Ranger Jason Downs and Cullman City Arborist Darrell Johns as they learned about fire safety and preventing forest fires.

Other activities of the week included:

  • “Colony Kids Camp Olympics” – athletic competitions, complete with an Olympic-style torch run
  • “Down and Dirty” – learning about gemstones, panning for gems and cracking open a few geodes

The Colony Summer Enrichment Program at the Colony Educational Complex offers educational and fun activities, along with free breakfast and lunch, for all community children each weekday through the last Friday in July, except for the week of July 4.  For more information, drop by the educational complex between 8 a.m. and lunchtime weekdays, or call 256-287-1192.
