HANCEVILLE – Wallace State athletics had a school-record 51 student-athletes recognized recently for their academic achievements during the 2017-2018 year in list released by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). The new mark surpasses last summer’s record of 41 students.
Wallace State had 11 students achieve a 4.0 GPA, each earning NJCAA All-Academic First-Team honors.
Wallace State volleyball had a team-high four players earn First-Team honors with a 4.0 GPA: Emily Wilson, Kati Thomas, Katie Edwards and Lexie Riggins. Wilson also played for Wallace State’s women’s tennis team for two seasons.
Softball’s Jodie Farnetti and baseball’s Palmer Ford achieved a 4.0 GPA for the second consecutive year and also earning First-Team recognition were Alysia Anderson (softball), Anna Williams (women’s golf), Garrett Brown (baseball) Jada Golden (women’s basketball) and Taylor Barkley (cross country).
Wallace State had 20 players make the NJCAA All-Academic Second Team for compiling a GPA between 3.80-3.99 during the 2017-18 academic year. Men’s basketball had six second-team honorees: Geordan Walker, Max Clark, Jerry Lwamba, Chris Rollins, Demarkus Lampley and Mike Johnson. Volleyball had Caroline Gann, Maya Jones, Kaylee Maddox and Courtlyn Barber earn-second team recognition along with softball’s Caroline Burns, Katie Burden, and Keeli Bobbitt; baseball’s Kolby Robinson and Austin Triplett; Ahziala Wright and Miajah Bullock from women’s basketball; Anna Seahorn (women’s golf); and cross country’s Victor Bravo and Andrew Blair.
Wallace State had 19 players named to the NJCAA All-Academic Third Team for compiling a GPA between 3.60-3.79. Softball’s Lauren Keplinger, Madison Grant, Megan Hill, Morgan Weatherwax, Sidney Edwards, Tanner Robertson and Taylor Goodpastor were all third-team recipients. Also achieving third-team status were Peyton Hayes, Wallace Henry and Tanner Rusk from the baseball team; volleyball’s Alex Wiggins, Hannah Simmons and Morgan Kyles; men’s basketball’s Jonathan Andre and Kevin Wharton-Price; Tempie Ennis of women’s tennis; Channing Gafford and Sydney Powell of women’s basketball and Marquise Cobbs, who performed for both women’s basketball and cross country.
