VINEMONT – There’s a new studio in town. Genesis Performing Arts is now officially open in Vinemont. The ribbon was cut on Tuesday afternoon and the kids and parents alike were excited to see the facility. Genesis offers lessons in dance, baton, tumbling, pageantry and color guard for boys and girls of all skill levels.
Co-owner Jaime Medlock was excited to see all the hard work renovating the building come to fruition on Tuesday.
“It has been a long process; it has been a lot of work. If anybody could have seen the before pictures of this building… only a couple of people saw what this place looked like. We purposely kept everybody out because it has definitely had a major transformation, I think Chip and Joanna (Gaines) would be proud,” Medlock joked. “It really has been a huge undertaking and a big process and there have been so many people that have helped us and made this possible.”
Medlock knew the renovations were necessary not just for safety reasons, but also to establish the atmosphere and aesthetic Genesis wanted for its new facility.
“We have been here for a month almost every single day getting this place ready. This used to be a warehouse of some kind, so you can imagine what a bunch of men can do to a building over time and some young girls having to come in and clean it up, so we’ve given it a facelift,” Medlock said. “We haven’t changed the structure at all; we did a lot of work in the gym area and we did a lot of painting. Over 6,000-square-feet worth of painting; that’s a lot of painting, but we knew it was important to have something like this in our community.”
Medlock and the rest of the staff at Genesis have a clear vision for what they want the business to be and that is a fun place that is welcoming to anyone who wants to learn.
“We want this place to be an uplifting place that young girls and boys can come to take dance and baton and tumbling, and we just thought it was a really important thing for us to have a nice place and something positive for these kids to be able to look forward to and take lessons here,” Medlock said. “There’s a place for everybody at Genesis, all skill levels, and we would just love to be able to borrow your children for a little while.”
