BREMEN – The Cold Springs Lady Eagles hosted the Class 2A, Area 13 Tournament Tuesday, taking home back-to-back area championships.

Cold Springs 10, Winston County 2

After seeing Winston County defeat Falkville, 15-11, to open up the area tournament, Cold Springs looked to jump on the Lady Yellow Jackets early and the Lady Eagles got things started in the bottom of the second. Anna Katherine Voce and Victoria Freeman started the inning with back-to-back singles, and Kylon Hamby blooped an RBI single over the shortstop's head to give the Lady Eagles an early 1-0 lead. But back-to-back one-out errors in the top of the third by Cold Springs' third baseman Shay Sellers led to an RBI single by Winston County to tie the game at one.

Cold Springs countered after that to take back control of the game. Hayden Goodwin and Crimson Gann led off the bottom of the third with back-to-back singles, then a Drew Sanders ground ball moved Goodwin and Gann over to third and second, respectively. Voce then hit a sacrifice fly and Freeman added an RBI double to give the Lady Eagles a 3-1 lead.

They added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run single by Sanders. Lacey Rice added an RBI single for the Lady Eagles in the fifth. An RBI single by Winston County made it a 6-2 game in the top of the sixth, but the Lady Eagles countered with a four-run sixth inning as Kyla Aaron hit an RBI double, Voce hit an RBI single and Freeman and Hamby hit back-to-back RBI groundouts to make it a 10-2 advantage for the Lady Eagles; Sanders worked around two singles in the top of the seventh to help seal the win for Cold Springs and move Winston County to the loser's bracket game against Falkville.

Sanders (one run scored, two hits), Voce (two runs scored, two hits), Freeman (two hits) and Hamby (one hit) each finished with two RBIs for Cold Springs. Lacey Rice added two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Aaron collected a hit and an RBI. Goodwin finished with two hits and three runs scored. Gann (two runs scored) and Emily Williams each finished with a hit. Toni West scored a run in the game as well. Sanders went six and two-thirds innings, giving up eight hits, two runs (one earned) and struck out four.

Cold Springs 2, Falkville 1 (Championship Game)

Falkville dominated Winston County in the loser's bracket game, 14-3, to take on Cold Springs in the championship game.

Each team put up a run in the first inning. An RBI single by Makenzie Veal gave the Lady Blue Devils an early 1-0 lead and they looked to add more as back-to-back singles loaded the bases, but Sanders got a fielder's choice and a strikeout to get out of the early jam. The Lady Eagles got that run back in their home half on a Sanders solo home run over the center-field fence.

Both Falkville's starting pitcher Kameryn Scales and Sanders put up zeros for the next three and one-half innings until Voce put one over the left-field fence to give the Lady Eagles a 2-1 lead. After giving up four hits in the first, Sanders gave up just four the rest of the way as she stymied the Lady Blue Devil offense, retiring the final nine batters, seven of them on ground outs, as the Lady Eagles clinched the area championship.

Sanders and Voce each had a homerun and scored a run for Cold Springs. Gann and Hamby each added a hit. The Lady Eagles improve to 19-8 overall.
