PREP BASEBALL: Big first inning propels Addison to road victory over Lindsay Lane, 9-4

ATHENS – In their first meeting on March 2, the Addison Bulldogs lit up the Lindsay Lane Lions for 19 runs in their 19-9 win at home. The Bulldogs traveled to Athens to take on the Lions on a windy and sunny Saturday afternoon, and a big first inning, plus five Lion errors, allowed Addison to leave Athens with the 9-4 win.

Braxton Preuitt led off the game for the Bulldogs with an infield single. Jorge Smith then lined a double to left field to put them in business early. Bryant Ridgeway hit an RBI groundout to put them on the scoreboard. Hayden Lee made it 2-0 with an RBI single up the middle. Jake Wilson and Gabe Alexander drew back-to-back walks to load the bases for freshman Jesse Brock, and he hit an RBI single to left field; Wilson later scored on a passed ball to make it a 4-0 advantage.

Ridgeway got in trouble in the first inning. Luke Turpen lined a single to left field; one out later, Brady Anderson got hit by the pitch and Elbert Davis drew a walk to load the bases for Drew Turpen; he reached on a dropped fly ball by the right fielder and allowed Luke Turpen to score to make it a 4-1 game.

Preuitt led off the second inning with an infield single, then he stole second and scored as Ridgeway reached on an error by the second baseman, Luke Turpen, to widen Addison's lead to 5-1. Ridgeway led off the Bulldog fourth with a double to right field; he stole second and later scored on an error by the catcher, Anderson, to make it a 6-1 advantage for the Bulldogs; they added another run in the sixth as Preuitt reached on another Lion error and Ridgeway drove him in with an RBI single. 

Camden Shields hit an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth for Lindsay Lane to cut the Bulldog lead to 7-2. Brock drew a one-out walk and later scored on three straight passed balls; Preuitt added an RBI single to make it 9-2. Charles Morrison and Anderson hit back-to-back two-out RBI doubles to make it a 9-4 game, but Ridgeway got Davis to fly out to center field to end the contest.

Preuitt finished with three hits, an RBI and scored three runs for Addison. Ridgeway added two hits, a pair of RBIs and a run scored. Lee collected a hit, an RBI and scored a run, as did Brock. Smith added a hit and he also scored a run. Six different Bulldog hitters drew at least one walk in the game. Ridgeway went the distance, allowing nine hits, four runs, three of them earned, walking two and striking out two. The Bulldogs improve to 6-7 overall and will head home to take on Marion County on Tuesday.
