CULLMAN – The Alabama Sports Writers Association released this year’s All-State Basketball award winners Saturday night and several local players earned spots on the list.
Cold Springs sophomore forward Elizabeth Hill earned on a place on the 3A third team and her fellow Lady Eagle Camryn Crider finished with the season with an honorable mention selection. Hill and Crider were both key components in Cold Springs’ 2A Area 13 Tournament victory and their team’s performance in the Northwest Regional.
Hanceville’s sophomore point guard Kelly Pickett was selected for class 3A’s third team. Pickett handled the ball for nearly all the Lady Bulldogs’ possessions this season and played a big role in all 19 of their wins on both ends of the floor.
Griffin Morris represented the Holly Pond Broncos on the boys 3A third team after a stellar senior season. Morris crossed the 1,000-career-points mark during this season for the Broncos, helped lead the Broncos to a Cullman County Tournament title, an Area 11 Tournament title, and collected this year’s Joe Shults Award. The award is given to the best senior boys’ basketball player in Cullman County each year to recognize excellence on and off the floor.
Fairview senior forward Abbi Taylor received an honorable mention for class 5A after eclipsing the 1,000-career-points mark and helping the Aggies win both the Cullman County and Area 12 Tournaments.
St. Bernard’s Christian Peterson played his way onto class 2A’s third team after closing out his career as a four-year starter for the Saints with a standout senior season. Peterson helped lead the Saints to a win in the Area 13 Tournament in 2018 and his production over the years will not be easy to replace.
Good Hope’s Cole Maddox picked up class 4A honorable mention accolades after a breakout sophomore season that has Raiders fans looking forward to the future on the hardwood.
