HAYDEN – The Fairview Aggies knocked off the West Point Warriors 74-64 at Hayden High School Tuesday night to advance to the 5A Area 12 championship game.
The Aggies got off to a slow start offensively, scoring just seven points in the first quarter and being badly out-rebounded by the Warriors. West Point’s Rylan Jones pulled down four boards in the first quarter alone and led the game with 10 to go along with six points and two steals.
The Aggies quickly adjusted in the second quarter, scoring 27 points and taking a 34-30 lead into the locker room at halftime. Fairview continued to put up points in the second half and never gave the lead back to the Warriors.
Bryson Fletcher and Luke Yarbrough did a lot of work for the Aggies offensively. Yarbrough finished with 14 points and six rebounds, while Fletcher led the Aggies in several categories, scoring 18, coming up with three steals and collecting seven rebounds. Fairview pressed the Warriors defensively for a lot of the second half and although they weren’t able to create a lot of turnovers until late in the game, the pressure slowed West Point down enough for the Aggies to pull away.
West Point came up short but was still able to find some success on the offensive end, particularly from guard Coby Sullins, who led all scorers with 21, knocked down three shots from beyond the arc and came up with eight rebounds.
The Aggies will travel back to Hayden Friday night at 6 to face either the Curry Yellow Jackets or the Hayden Wildcats for the 5A Area 12 title.
