CULLMAN – An area man has been airlifted to Huntsville and a toddler taken to Cullman Regional after an alleged dog attack on the city's southwest side late Wednesday afternoon.
According to Cullman Police Chief Kenny Culpepper, "At around 4 p.m., a family dog attacked a 2-year-old girl. An adult at the residence, presumably the grandfather, stepped in to help and got bit."
Culpepper said the dog, described as a "bulldog-type," was shot and killed by another relative on the scene to end the attack.
The incident occurred at a home on Seventh Street Southwest.
The chief said the child was transported to Cullman Regional, and the grandfather was airlifted to Huntsville.
"He may have severed an artery, so that would be life-threatening," said Culpepper.
This is a developing story.
