Funeral services for Erfred "Sonny" Richardson Jr., 78, of Hanceville, will be at noon Thursday, January 18, 2018, at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home, with burial in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park on Friday. Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Richardson passed away Sunday, January 14, at Hanceville Nursing Home. He was born January 21, 1939, to Erfred and Anita Richardson Sr.
He received his BS in Engineering at the University of Alabama, his MS in Engineering from Defense Systems Management College, Washington D.C., and held several engineering and management positions, including U.S. Army Missile Command, Redstone Arsenal, General Engineer for PERSHING Missile System 1967-1986, Chief Engineer, PERSHING Missile System 1986-1988, Theatre High Altitude Air Defense (THAAD) System Project Engineer, 1989-1994. After retiring to Smith Lake in Cullman, he enjoyed traveling and spending time with family. Mr. Richardson knew and had a special relationship with Jesus Christ. He was a member of Paul Levering's Sunday School class at Cullman First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Richardson; children, Sandy Lee and Charles (Meghan) Hollis; grandchildren, Ellie Hollis and Jeffrey Lee; and sisters, Sara Ann Banks and Anita Jean Bryce.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home.
