CULLMAN –  Due to winter weather and closures this week of offices and mobile units, LifeSouth is currently in emergency need of all blood types and also in need of platelet donors. The local LifeSouth office is located at 112 Clark Street across from Rumors Deli in Cullman. It is open today until 5 p.m. and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on weekdays.

"With the weather yesterday, none of our offices or mobile units were able to go out which was an unforeseen circumstance due to the weather," said LifeSouth's Heather Wittlock Buckelew in an email. "We have been in emergency need for a couple weeks now, and the only way to get the blood to the hospitals is by having donors."

To give blood, donors must be in good health, 17 years or older (or 16 with parental permission), weigh at least 110 pounds and show a valid photo I.D Each donor will receive a recognition item for his or her donation.
