CULLMAN –  The National Weather Service in Huntsville has issued a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY, in effect from 6 a.m.-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16 for the counties of Madison, Morgan, Marshall, Jackson, De Kalb, Cullman and Franklin (Tennessee).

According to the NWS:

Accumulating snow is expected on Tuesday. A strong cold front will move through the region late Monday night, with temperatures falling below freezing by midnight. Meanwhile, a band of light snow is expected to develop behind the front and enter northwest Alabama by sunrise on Tuesday. This band of light snow will continue to move through the area during the day before exiting the area shortly after sunset. Although snow accumulations will generally remain below 1 inch, temperatures are expected to be in the lower to mid 20s areawide. This could create hazardous travel conditions through the day.

Plan on slippery road conditions, including during the evening commute on Tuesday. Total snow accumulations of up to 1 inch are expected. Be prepared for reduced visibilities at times. A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving. Light snow will begin to impact the northwest half of the outlook area between 3-6 a.m., and should accumulate based on very cold temperatures in the mid 20s. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for this portion of the area to address the threat for rapidly deteriorating road conditions beginning at 3 a.m. The band of light but accumulating snow will continue to spread slowly eastward during the day on Tuesday. Snow will come to an end across the southeastern counties by 9 p.m., with the Winter Weather Advisory ending at this time as well. Otherwise, moderate northerly winds will lead to dangerously low wind chills in the zero to -10 degree range from Tuesday evening through late Wednesday morning.
