Martha Dodd Shirey, 84, of Muscle Shoals, formerly of Haleyville, was surrounded by her loved ones when she entered into rest on January 10, 2018 at Helen Keller Hospital.
Martha was born on September 5, 1933, in Double Springs, Alabama. She graduated from Winston County High School and then went on to graduate from the University of Alabama. Martha was a social worker and retired from the State of Alabama Department of Pension and Securities. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Haleyville.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 from noon until 2 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Haleyville, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Brother Gary Wakefield and Walt James will officiate. Burial will follow in Winston Memorial Cemetery.
Martha is survived by her sons, David Lee and his wife Elizabeth, George Paul and his wife Sharon; sister, Mary Katherine James. She was "Memaw" to 5 grandchildren, Garrett Shirey, Whitney Shirey Owens, Austin Shirey, Reese Shirey, Mara Shirey Robbins; and 7 great grandchildren, Arlie Robbins, Rylan Shirey, Hudson Owens, Aulcie Kate Shirey, Rayce Shirey, Toxey Robbins and Harrison Owens. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Maud Dodd; sisters, Geraldine Howser, Jeanette Taylor, Jimmie "Tingle" Epperson, and Cecelia Snoddy; brothers, Frank Dodd, Paul Dodd and Lee "Pert" Dodd.
