GOOD HOPE – Tuesday night was a full night of hoops in Good Hope, with the JV and varsity squads hosting Hanceville.
Hanceville 28, Good Hope, 27 (JV Girls)
The Lady Bulldogs came out playing full court pressure on the Lady Raiders. Mental errors caused the Lady Bulldogs to make unnecessary errors. The Lady Raiders were aggressive on defense. Desire Odachowski banked a 3-pointer and was fouled, went to the free-throw line and made both baskets. Hanceville’s Jada Graves got a couple of free throws as well. It was 7-5, Good Hope at the end of one, and after a back-and-forth second quarter, Hanceville went to the break, up 14-12.
At the end of three, the Raiders were back on top, 21-17. The fourth came down to free throws. With two seconds remaining, Good Hope’s Ruby Lucas was fouled and had a chance to tie up the game. She went 1-of-2 from the line, and the Lady Bulldogs held on to win, 28-27.
The Lady Bulldogs were led by Malorie Morgan with 10 points and the Lady Raiders by Kyndall Seal with nine.
Good Hope 39, Hanceville 32 (JV Boys)
Raiders Tanner Malin, Dawson Turner and Colton Williams came out and banked four 3- pointers to take a quick 12-4 lead. The Bulldogs battled back and cut the lead to 16-14 at the end of one. It was 20-16, Good Hope, at the half.
The Bulldogs took the lead in the third after JR Isbell banked two 3-pointers making the score 24-23, but Williams and Malin each got another three, and it was 32-27 Raiders at the end of the third. The Raiders went on to win, 39-32.
Malin led Good Hope with 17 points and five 3-pointers in the game. Hanceville’s Isbell got 12 points.
Hanceville 62, Good Hope 42 (Varsity Girls)
A wild game ended with Hanceville the 20-point victor.
Things started out well for the Lady Bulldogs, who took a 17-6 lead after one. They opened the second on a 12-0 run before the Lady Raiders scored a basket making it 27-8. Good Hope played aggressively, but the Lady Bulldogs took a 39-12 lead to the break.
Good Hope came out of the locker room going on an 8-0 run, cutting the lead to 39-20. Things heated up going into the final quarter, with the Lady Bulldogs on top 47-27.
During the break between periods, a fan from one of the schools took his disappointment to another level by going onto the court and having to be escorted out of the gym.
The fourth was a physical battle for both teams, with aggravation ratcheting up the intensity. In the end, the Lady Bulldogs came out victorious, 62-42.
The Lady Bulldogs were led by Kelley Pickett with 19 points. Erika Woodall and Kate Kent paced the Lady Raiders with 16 points each.
Good Hope 59, Hanceville 54 (Varsity Boys)
The last game of the night had the varsity boys in a battle to the end, with the Raiders coming from behind to win it, 59-54.
Both teams were hot, banking a total of seven threes between the two teams in the first, coming from Hanceville’s RJ Evans and Brendon Flanigan and Good Hope’s Isaac McDonald and Kallen Sharpton. At the end of one, it was Good Hope, 18-16.
Evans and Flanigan continued to make plays for the Bulldogs, who took a 28-26 lead to the break.
The second half was as exciting as the first. Raiden Morgan got in on the 3-point shootout for the Bulldogs, and Hanceville was up 45-39 going into the last quarter.
The fourth belonged to the Raiders, who came from behind with the help of Cole Maddox, who scored 14 of his 19 points in the final quarter, helping his team win 59-54.
Maddox led the Raiders with 19; McDonald got 14 points with four 3-pointers on the night. The Bulldogs were led by Morgan with 17 points, while Evans had 16 points and four 3-pointers and Flanigan had 12 points with four 3-pointers for the night.

Holly Pond 63, J.B. Pennington 44 (Girls)
The Holly Pond Lady Broncos took care of J.B. Pennington at home in a huge regional match up that saw them snap their five-game losing streak. They improve to 4-12 overall and 2-3 in the region, and will look to even their region record and win their second in a row at home against Locust Fork on Friday night in their second of four straight at home.
Holly Pond 88, J.B. Pennington 45 (Boys)
The Broncos rolled to another impressive victory, against J.B. Pennington at home, to win the area title in Class 3A, Area 11. They improve to 17-3 overall and a perfect 5-0 in region play.
Fairview 59, Hayden 34 (Girls)
The Fairview Lady Aggies took care of business at home against Hayden to win their second straight area title in Class 5A, Area 12. They improve to 14-6 overall and 4-0 in the region, and will welcome Curry to town on Friday.
Hayden 96, Fairview 93 (Boys) 2OT
In a double-overtime thrilling shootout, Fairview fell to Hayden at home to drop to 9-9 on the season and 2-1 in region play.
Oakman 85, Vinemont 43 (Boys)
Vinemont fell to Oakman at home in Tuesday night action. The Eagles will stay at home on Thursday as they take on St. Bernard.
Meek 55, Winston County 45 (Boys)
The Meek Tigers won a big road game against Winston County to improve to 15-4 overall. They are 6-1 in their last seven games and have won four straight, and will look to make it five in a row at home against Addison on Thursday.
