HANCEVILLE – Wallace State’s Quiz Bowl team recently capped off its fall season with a third straight tournament championship, winning the Wallace State Invitational.

Earlier in the semester, the Wallace State Quiz Bowl team also prevailed at the Alabama College Bowl League at Coastal Alabama Community College in Bay Minette and won the Cerebral Weevil competition at Enterprise State.

In all three tournaments, Wallace State has impressively lost only one round, competing in a field of 12 teams at most events.

Wallace State Quiz Bowl team members are Zakk Waddell, Ross Wallace, Derik Arendall, Paul Knetter, Brett Hogan, Caleb Still and Elivia Jones. Waddell, Wallace and Arendall are West Point High graduates. Knetter is from Gardendale, Hogan is from Fairview, Still is from Cullman and Jones is from Baileyton.

Wallace State’s next tournament is in January at Bevill State, where the team will compete in a qualifying event for the National Academic Quiz Tournaments (NAQT). Wallace State is a member of the Alabama College Bowl League.

Wallace State has four returning team members who finished ninth nationally in March at the 2017 National Academic Quiz Tournaments’ Community College Championship. The event was held at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn.

Christine O’Leary, a Wallace State physics instructor, is the team sponsor.
