CULLMAN COUNTY – Monday was a busy day for basketball as local teams were in regular season and tournament game match ups.
Addison 77, Cordova 34 (Girls)
After falling 59-44 to Decatur Heritage on Saturday in the Winston County Christmas Classic, the Addison Lady Bulldogs came back in a big way against the Cordova Lady Blue Devils, dominating from start to finish to take home the victory and improve to 9-4. Their next game will be against Winston County on Jan. 4 in a home match-up.
Hanceville 58, Moody 28 (Girls)
The Hanceville Lady Bulldogs easily took care of business against Moody in the first round of the Susan Moore Christmas Tournament.
Malia Howell finished with 17 points to lead Hanceville (7-5). Cassidy Campbell had 16. Kelly Pickett ended up with 11, and Karmen Johnson and Kierra Merriweather each finished with seven. They will take on Susan Moore on Wednesday.
Meek 54, Curry 39 (Girls)
After going 1-1 in the Winston County Christmas Tournament, Meek took on Curry Monday night and ended up taking the win by 15 points, improving to 10-5 on the season. The Lady Tigers will not play until the new year, when they travel to Oakman on Jan. 2.
Brewer 42, Fairview 33 (Girls)
Fairview dropped a road match up at Brewer.
Abbi Taylor led Fairview with 11 points. McKinna Yearwood had nine and Taylor Yeager ended up with seven. They will participate in the Decatur Christmas Tournament, which will start next Wednesday.
Hartselle 62, West Point 49 (Girls)
West Point's losing streak is at four after falling on the road in a rematch against Hartselle. The Lady Warriors had a 42-40 lead after three, but got outscored by the Lady Tigers, 22-9, in the final period, to wind up on the wrong end of a 13-point loss.
Miriam Oldacre had a big game for West Point (10-4), finishing with 23 points. Lexi Shadix had seven. Olivia Ball chipped in with six. Brooke Brownfield and Micah Oldacre each had five, and Mackenzie Carter ended up with three. They will be involved in the Lauderdale County Christmas Tournament, which starts next Tuesday.
Curry 62, Meek 59 (Boys)
Meek came into the game with a 9-0 record taking on Curry in a road match-up, but the Tigers wound up dropping the game by just three points, suffering their first loss of the season.
They will look to recover in the Oak Grove Pre-Christmas Tournament against Heritage Christian Academy on Tuesday.
Brewer 67, Fairview 51 (Boys)
Fairview dropped to 6-4 overall on the season after a road loss to Brewer.
Luke Yarbrough had 16 for the Aggies. Bryson Fletcher had nine. Cameron Guthrie and Austin Turner each chipped in with seven. They will take part in the Albertville Christmas Tournament, which will start next Tuesday.
Hartselle 67, West Point 64 (Boys)
After falling in a rough loss against Hartselle a week ago, West Point looked for a huge upset on the road against the Tigers, and they battled with them for the whole game, but a late turnover with a second remaining sealed the Warriors' fate. West Point fell just short of a big road win. They fall to 6-7 on the season and will host the Christmas Tournament starting next Tuesday.
