HANCEVILLE – It was a nip and tuck game between the West Point Warriors and the Fairview Aggies to open the first day of boys' play in the 2017 Middle School County Basketball Tournament.

It took all four quarters to decide a winner. Down by three heading to the fourth, Fairview quickly tied the game with a three ball. From there the action went back and forth with West Point taking the lead right back with a bucket on the other end. The game came down to the free throw line where West Point was able to stave off the late Fairview charge and take the game 42-37.

Vinemont 25, Holly Pond 19
Vinemont opened its game on fire, dominating the first quarter against Holly Pond, outscoring the Broncos,12-2.  Holly Pond started to find its rhythm in the second, scoring seven and holding Vinemont to just two.

The Broncos took their first lead of the night just a minute into the third. They pushed the advantage and went up by as much as four, but Vinemont fought back and tied the game. Holly Pond went up by two late, but a three by Kix Johnson with seven seconds left gave Vinemont the 20-19 lead going to the fourth. Vinemont only scored five in the fourth, but it was enough, as the Eagles held Holly Pond scoreless and took the game 25-19.

Cold Springs 51,  Parkside 16
Cold Springs dominated Parkside in the first quarter of action. The Eagles ran the floor extremely well, taking advantage of a plethora of Parkside turnovers on their way to a 13-2 advantage. The Eagles continued the onslaught in the second, outscoring Parkside 16-2 for a 29-4 halftime lead.

Cold Springs was relentless in the second half, hitting shot after shot on the way to a hot-clock victory over Parkside 51-16.

Hanceville 41, Good Hope 23
The hosting Hanceville Bulldogs were in control from the opening whistle to the final buzzer when they took on Good Hope in the final game of day one in the middle school boys county championship. 
Hanceville jumped out to an early lead in the first and continued to press the issue in the second to take a 30-13 lead to the locker room at the half.
The second half was all Hanceville as the spread the ball all over the floor, sharing the rock and hitting open shots. Good shooting from the Bulldogs coupled with great defense led to a big 41-23 victory.
