VINEMONT – The Hanceville Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs rolled to easy road victories over Vinemont.
Hanceville 82, Vinemont 13 (Girls)
Hanceville was on point from the word go, rolling to an easy area win over the Vinemont Lady Eagles.
Kelly Pickett led the way for the Lady Bulldogs with 22 points. Kierra Merriweather ended up with 21 points. Malia Howell finished with 14, and Karmen Johnson had 10, as all but one player scored at least two points. The Lady Bulldogs improve to 5-4 on the season and 2-0 in the area.
Sadie Stanley (seven) and Madysen Hacker (six) paced the scoring for Vinemont (0-7, 0-2).
Hanceville 54, Vinemont 24 (Boys)
A strong first-quarter by Hanceville and R.J. Evans was more than enough to secure an area win over Vinemont.
Evans had a huge first quarter, scoring 15 of Hanceville's 21 first-quarter points, while the defense allowed just a free throw by Vinemont's Katch Johnson, taking a 21-1 lead after one. The Bulldogs allowed just two Eagle field goals in the second, the first coming at the 3:48 mark by Nathaniel England. Six different Bulldogs found the scoring column as they increased their lead to 36-6 at the half, and they rolled from there to the road win.
Evans finished with 18 for Hanceville (5-3), 12 of those on threes. Brendan Flanigan ended up with 12, and Allen Jones finished with eight. Balanced scoring paced Hanceville as seven different players scored at least two points. The Bulldogs will look to extend their winning streak to three at home in a huge area game against Carbon Hill on Friday.
Johnson paced Vinemont (0-6, 0-2) with 12 points. The Eagles will look to get their first win of the season on Thursday at St. Bernard.
