CULLMAN COUNTY – Two men working as contract construction workers for the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) were struck by a vehicle on Interstate 65 Wednesday morning as they were removing barrels from the roadway. The incident occurred at approximately 9:44 a.m. near mile marker 296 in the southbound lanes.

Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) State Trooper Chuck Daniel said both men were taken to Huntsville-area hospitals with non life-threatening injuries.

An ALEA spokesperson identified the men as Anderson Dixon, 23, of Attalla and Darryl Hamilton, 45, of Gadsden.

"The two men were contract construction workers through ALDOT," said Daniel. "They were pulling the lane closure barrels from the roadway when a woman lost control of her vehicle. After she lost control, she was hit by another vehicle that pushed her into the closed lane and hit the workers."

Daniel said the vehicle that hit the men was a red pick-up truck. Neither its driver, nor the driver of the other vehicle, were injured.

The posted speed limit in the area is 55 due to construction, but Daniel said he did not know how fast the woman was driving.
