HOLLY POND – For the 61st time, Holly Pond hosted its annual Thanksgiving Tournament, and day one was a doozy.
Cullman 67, Good Hope 40
Good Hope got on the board first with a three from the top of the key from Kallen Sharpton, followed by a deep ball from Cole Maddox to put the Raiders up 6-0. Then Jake McAfee put down a pair of free throws for Cullman and it was all Bearcats from there. Cullman went on a quarter-spanning 14-3 run and took a 16-9 lead after one.
The Cullman offense did not relent in the second, opening the quarter on a 12-3 run before the Raiders were forced to call a timeout. Coming out of the break, the Bearcats continued to pour in points, dropping in an even 20 in the quarter for a 36-17 lead at the half.
The second half was marred with hard fouls, chippy play and three technical fouls. The first was on Cullman's Dylan Finch, then less than two minutes later, Maddox received two technical fouls on the same play getting him ejected from the contest. Cullman and Good Hope both played through the aggressiveness, with Cullman earning the 67-40 victory.
Good Hope will play J.B. Pennington Thursday at 6 p.m. while Cullman will take the floor against Holly Pond Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
