HANCEVILLE – If you like basketball, Hanceville was the place to be Tuesday night when the 2017 Hanceville Thanksgiving Tournament tipped off with game one pitting the Cold Springs Eagles against the Dora Bulldogs.
Dora 54, Cold Springs 22
Dora opened the game with a 4-0 lead in the first three minutes before Hunter McClendon made his presence known inside with a tough basket. He scored the next four points for the Eagles and six of their eight first-quarter points. After one, Cold Springs trailed Dora 10-8.
McClendon pulled Cold Springs even with Dora early in the second. The score went back and forth for the rest of the quarter with Dora up 19-16.
The third was not kind to the Eagles; they were outscored 21-4 by the red-hot Bulldogs. The offensive surge led to a 40-20 lead heading to the last frame. Dora kept the hammer down in the fourth, building to a 30-point lead and a hot clock. Final score: Dora 54, Cold Springs 22.
Hanceville 72, Jefferson Christian 38
RJ Evans put Hanceville on the board first with a basket in the paint, but Jefferson Christian answered back with a three. From there the score went back and forth until back-to-back dunks from Evans and Josh Stanley put the Dawgs up by four. That’s where the margin stayed with Hanceville up 17-13.
Hanceville came out in the second like a whirlwind, outscoring Jefferson Christian 5-0 to quickly force a timeout. Coming out of the break, the Bulldogs poured it on and took a 38-19 lead to the half.
Hanceville continued to apply pressure and pour in points, outscoring Jefferson Christian 24-9 in the quarter for a 33-point lead and a hot clock in the fourth. In a time-shortened fourth, Hanceville took care of business, cruising to a 72-38 victory.
