CULLMAN COUNTY – It’s a bad time to be a chicken in east Cullman County this weekend, as the Holly Pond High School Bronco Marching Band and Welti Elementary School PTO are holding their annual fundraising chicken dinners back-to-back, Saturday and Sunday.
Welti Elementary School
Welti, with a long tradition of plated poultry, will hold its 84th annual Chicken Supper on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 4-6:30 p.m. at the school. Carry-outs and drive-through service will be available. The menu will include chicken and dressing, green beans, slaw, potato salad and cranberry sauce. The cost is $8 per plate.
According to Principal Gina Webb, the Welti PTO will use the proceeds from this event to provide teachers with instructional supplies for their classrooms.
“This is a longstanding supper,” said Webb, “rooted in a lot of tradition and community pride. Even some of our retired lunchroom ladies come back and help us with the dressing and preparation. That should tell you what this means to our community!”
Welti Elementary School is located at 8545 County Road 747, Cullman, AL 35055.
Holly Pond High School Bronco Marching Band
The Bronco Band will hold its annual chicken dinner on Sunday, Nov. 5, from 11 a.m. until servers run out of food, in the high school lunchroom. The menu will include chicken breast, baked potato, green beans, slaw, roll, drink and dessert. The cost is $7 per plate.
New Holly Pond Band Director Evan Curtis said that this year’s proceeds will go mainly toward the purchase of new band uniforms, with some money being set aside to help with upcoming band trip expenses.
“It’s been a tradition for many years now,” said Curtis, “and we’re looking forward to keeping it alive, and helping support our band.”
Holly Pond High School is located at 160 New Hope Road, Holly Pond, AL 35083.
