BREMEN – It was a battle of attrition in the first half Thursday night when the Danville Hawks flew into Bremen to take on the Cold Springs Eagles in the last game of the 2017 season for both squads.

The first quarter was more of a feeling out process than anything else as the two teams jockeyed for field position via punts. Neither squad could gain an advantage, leading to a 0-0 first quarter.

Danville was the first team on the board with a 22-yard score from Cameron Moore, set up by a 14-yard pass from Cody Cribbs to Lucas Sparks. The touchdown and PAT made the score 7-0 in favor of the Hawks.

Cold Springs mounted its own scoring drive late in the first half when an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against Danville kept the Eagles drive going on third-and-11. Cold Springs took advantage of the penalty, using the legs of Calvin McNabb to chew up yards all the way down the field, culminating in a 17-yard field goal by Adam Hill to make the score 7-3. Danville got a last second shot at a field goal at the end the quarter but missed the 41-yard attempt to end the half.

Danville went right back to work out of the break when Kane Hogan blasted into the end zone from 4 yards out with a mere 26 seconds gone in the half.

The momentum and field position swapped back and forth for the rest of the third quarter with Danville taking a 14-3 lead to the fourth.

Danville added a third and final touchdown in the last quarter on an 18-yard touchdown pass from Cribbs to Moore. The PAT split the uprights, giving the Hawks a 21-3 advantage they held on to for the rest of the game.

Final score at Cranford Stricklin Stadium: Danville 21, Cold Springs 3

The Eagles end the 2017 season 1-9, with a 0-6 record in 2A Region 7.

The Hawks end the 2017 season 3-7, with a 0-6 record in 4A Region 8.
