CULLMAN – A Cullman man is behind bars on multiple charges following a short pursuit Wednesday.

According to a media release from the Cullman Police Department, Norris Joseph Guillot, III, 43, led Sgt. Chris Thomason and Officer Dustin Colburn on a brief chase after Thomason and Colburn attempted to stop him in the North Shopping Center. The CPD said Guillot had multiple warrants. As officers made contact, Guillot put his vehicle in reverse and fled the scene.

The pursuit lasted only minutes, from the back side of the shopping center to Hickory Avenue at U.S. Highway 278.  The chase ended with Guillot’s vehicle cornered.

As Guillot was turning onto Third Street during the chase, he allegedly threw a handgun from his vehicle just blocks from West Elementary School.  Officers immediately recovered the handgun, which was loaded.

Guillot was arrested and charged with attempting to elude, reckless endangerment and certain persons forbidden to possess a pistol.  He was also issued citations for several traffic violations.  At the time of Wednesday’s arrest, Guillot was out on bond on first-degree assault charges.

Those assault charges stem from a July 2015 incident in which Guillot allegedly shot and wounded three people outside the Street Fury motorcycle club in Decatur, where he was working security.

In August, The Decatur Daily reported that Guillot “continues to argue he is immune from prosecution under Alabama's stand-your-ground law.”

Guillot’s trial for those charges is set for Dec. 4. A hearing is set for Nov. 6 on his motion for immunity from prosecution.

Guillot was transported to the Cullman County Detention Center where he remains incarcerated.
