CULLMAN – On Wednesday afternoon Dr. Eric Fillinger cut the ribbon on his new foot clinic at 1400 Wall St., near the Cullman Surgical Center, where he relocated his practice in October. In attendance were his family and staff, Cullman Mayor Woody Jacobs, and representatives of the Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce and Cullman Regional Medical Center.
Fillinger chose the new location in order to offer services to more patients, saying, “The practice was expanding. The number of patients we received per day was increasing, and we only had three treatment rooms in our previous office, and so we were looking at expanding that office space, constructing something new, or buying something existing. And, about that time, this building became available.”
The building, a former optometrist’s office and optical shop, was gutted and reconfigured by Yearwood Construction to house six examination/treatment rooms and a minor surgical procedure room, plus offices, staff rooms and a waiting area.
The doctor explained, “Through the month of October, we’ve already seen an increased volume of patients, probably about 20 percent.”
Fillinger is the only certified foot and ankle surgeon in the Cullman area. As such, his practice draws patients from as far away as Decatur, Huntsville, Gadsden, Gardendale, Jasper and Haleyville. From an average of 120 patients per week at his old location, he and his staff have seen from 140 to 150 patients per week at the Wall Street office since the move last month.
“It’s a blessing,” said Fillinger. “I’ve been here for 19 years, out on my own for eight, and it’s just been so wonderful to see how God has blessed and grown this . . . It’s not so much me, as it is a gift from God, and we are very thankful for that.”
