Wallace State’s cross country teams finish ACCC runner-up

Wallace State’s women’s runners prepare to begin the ACCC race over the weekend.

HANCEVILLE – Wallace State’s cross country teams each finished conference runner-up at the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) meet held on campus over the weekend.

Wallace State’s men’s team had four runners earn All-Tournament recognition: Victor Bravo, Tyler Crowden, Dustin Howell and Christian Baker.

Bravo finished fourth in the event for the Lions, clocking in at 28:49.20. Bravo, a freshman from Albertville, was Wallace State’s top finisher in all six meets this fall.

Crowden finished fifth for Wallace State with a 29:00.04 mark. Howell was sixth with a 29:20.16 and Baker finished eighth at 29:48.88.

Rounding out the field for Wallace State were Jacob Guthrie (31:12.31), Brennan Wink (33:01.07) and Morgan Smith (33:41.53).

Marion Military won the championship and had Nick Abbinanti win the individual title for the Tigers, clocking in at 27:27.01.

The men’s race was a 4.9 mile meet.

For the Wallace State women, Marlena Morales capped her freshman campaign as the individual ACCC runner-up. She finished the 3.1 mile run in 22:27.63.

Joining Morales on the All-Tournament team from Wallace State were Marquise Cobbs (4th, 22:53.84); Taylor Barkley (5th, 23:34.42); and Presley Higdon (26:09.96).

Andrea Jacques finished with a 32:23.81 for the Lady Lions.

Marion Military’s Teresa Gaspar-Herrera was the women’s individual champion, clocking in at 21:40.74.

Wallace State, coached by Stan Narewksi and assistant coach Tony Crider, competed in meets this fall at Alabama, Jacksonville State, Montevallo and UAB.

As the ACCC cross country slate expands, Narewski said he hopes to host more meets on Wallace State’s campus in the upcoming years.
