CULLMAN COUNTY – Area high school volleyball tournaments have wrapped, and the AHSAA North Regional schedule is set for Thursday and Friday. Here’s where all local teams finished.
Three local squads took their area titles, including Addison, Holly Pond and Good Hope.
The North Regional opens Thursday at the Von Braun Civic Center in Huntsville.
Class 1A, Area 12:
Last year's defending champions, the Addison Lady Bulldogs, are looking to defend their championship this season. They took care of business during the area tournament, sweeping Brilliant in three straight sets before beating Meek 3-1 in the championship game to advance to Thursday's North Regional in Huntsville against Area 16 runner-up Cherokee at 2 p.m. Meek, the runner-up, will face off against Area 16 champions, Covenant Christian, at 3:30 on Thursday afternoon.
Class 2A, Area 10:
The Cold Springs Lady Eagles took care of Tarrant in three straight sets before falling to Altamont 2-1 in the championship game on Monday. They will take on Area 13 winner, Tanner, at 10:15 on Thursday morning.
Class 2A, Area 13:
The St. Bernard Lady Saints swept Falkville in three straight before getting swept by Tanner in three straight on Monday. As the Area 13 runner-up, they will play Area 10 champion, Altamont, at 11:30 on Thursday morning.
Class 3A, Area 11
The Holly Pond Lady Broncos made quick work of Susan Moore (3-0) and J.B. Pennington (3-0) to win the area tournament Tuesday. They will meet Elkmont in the North Regional Friday at 11:30 a.m.
Class 3A, Area 12:
The Hanceville Lady Bulldogs fell in three straight to Carbon Hill, ending their season. Same for the Vinemont Lady Eagles, who were swept by Oakman.
Class 4A, Area 10:
The Good Hope Lady Raiders can now add area champions to their trophy case as they swept Cordova in three straight to win the championship; they will take on the Area 13 runner-up, Sardis, on Thursday afternoon at 12:45 p.m.
Class 5A, Area 12:
The Fairview Lady Aggies looked to add another trophy to their case during the area tournament. They swept Curry in three straight and awaited the West Point-Hayden winner. It went back and forth between the Lady Warriors and the Lady Wildcats in a five-set thriller, but in the end, West Point fell, 3-2, as their season came to a close. Just like the West Point-Hayden game, the Lady Aggies and the Lady Wildcats battled back and forth in five amazing sets, but Fairview wound up falling just short, losing, 3-2, to finish as the area runner-up. Their opponent will be the Area 16 champions, Lawrence County, and they will play on Friday at 10:15 a.m.
Class 6A, Area 14:
Cullman looked to extend its season against Brewer, but it was not to be as they got swept, 3-0, by the Patriots, and the Lady Bearcats’ season came to a close.
