CULLMAN – It was all St. Bernard Thursday afternoon when the Westminster Lady Warriors came calling. Although the Lady Saints trailed in every set, perseverance, which has been the theme of this season, shone through as they came back to win in straight sets.

Set 1

25-20

Westminster started the first set on a 5-1 run and eventually ballooned it to 10-5 before St. Bernard got things going. The Lady Saints, on the strength of strong play from Emma Tafazoli, came roaring back to score the last 10 points of the set to take a 25-20 victory.

Set 2

25-17

Much like a mirror of the first set, St. Bernard got down early but capitalized on some Westminster errors. That, plus some strong play from the front row and several good serves, saw the Lady Saints take set number two 25-17.

Set 3

25-18

Set three was a back-and-forth affair with both teams jockeying for position. Westminster got up as much as 12-7 before St. Bernard quickly closed the gap. A 9-2 run by the Lady Saints was enough to force a pair of Westminster timeouts. However, the braking action was not enough to slow down St. Bernard’s momentum as the Lady Saints cruised to a 25-18 victory.

"They were down every set but they were able to come from behind," said Saint Bernard head coach Tiffany Hinkle-Pope. "We got really good play from our seniors. Amy Whaley and Emma Tafazoli played amazing. Perseverance has been the theme for our year for coach (Regina) Willoughby and that's what they did."
