WINFIELD – Good Hope fought hard Friday night when they traveled to Winfield, but they came up short against the Pirates, 28-12.
The Raiders held tough in the first half, firing the first shot with a touchdown from Matthew Dixon with 10:40 left to go in the half to go up 6-0.
Winfield answered with 2:48 left in the half, and after converting the PAT, took a 7-6 lead to the locker room.
Winfield came out firing after the break. The Pirates scored two quick touchdowns in the third quarter and added a 2-point conversion to make the score 21-6 at the end of three.
Just seven seconds into the fourth, the Pirates added their fourth touchdown of the night to make the score 28-6.
Good Hope scored its second touchdown of the night, again from Dixon, with 59 seconds left on the game clock to make the final score 28-12.
"We had our moments when we played well but continue to make too many mental mistakes," said Good Hope head coach Alan Scott. "We have to clean up the little things and get better this week as we prepare for Haleyville."
Good Hope will go back to work Monday as they prepare for Haleyville next Friday.
