CULLMAN – On Tuesday, a day after the Cullman City Planning Commission approved a conditional use permit for the use of the old K-Mart property in south Cullman, Becky Zirlen, Planet Fitness public relations manager, confirmed that the fitness chain will open in part of the building.

“We are looking forward to bringing Planet Fitness, home of the Judgement Free Zone, to Cullman in early 2018," said Zirlen. "We are excited for the community to see that Planet Fitness is an affordable, non-intimidating place to work out where everyone can feel comfortable.”

Susan Eller, Cullman Economic Development Agency’s retail development manager, expressed satisfaction and anticipation at the announcement.

“It is hard to replace big box retailers, especially in non-metro areas," Eller stated. "We are very excited to learn that in less than a year, the former Kmart building will be home to three new tenants. Cullman is becoming more attractive to national retailers as evidenced by Planet Fitness’ decision to open one of their newest locations here."

Planet Fitness will occupy the approximately 26,000-square-foot space in the center of the building, located at 1731 Second Ave. SW. Spaces on either side will accommodate two other tenants, which have not yet been named.
